CURRENT PRODUCTION

A group of women gather to discuss the Greek play, Medea, by Euripides. As the play is discussed, the modern world flashes back to the Greek World, where we discover the character of Medea, a woman on the edge of a horrific choice: murdering her children to seek revenge on Jason, her deceitful husband. As her destiny unravels and her actions are exposed, examined and judged by the women, unknowingly, so too are the lives of the women in the book club, an experience that will change them forever.

The Project/Background:
Skin Theatre has always wanted to create their own original work, and after producing two shows of short original pieces by other writers (Dark Deeds 2014 and Bites 2015) they decided to develop a show that explores their own core values: women in strong roles, issues that relate to the community, and theatre that is experimental and unique.
Skin Theatre was formed because a group of artists in the Manawatu felt that there were not enough strong acting and leadership roles for women in theatre that either challenged or inspired them. Together with a variety of talented Manawatu artists, they have continued to bring challenging and entertaining theatre to Palmerston North.
